Ian has never developed a strong opinion about whether union membership would have helped or hurt his career. He began doing freelance voiceovers while working at a very small radio station. By the time he had contact with AFTRA at a larger station, his list of clients had developed to the point where changing his status would have been counter-productive. Although he'll never know what might have been, Ian is very pleased with the way things have turned out.

Should you hire union or non-union talent? Unless you are bound by a contract, union status should be irrelevant. Hire the voice talent you need to get your project completed successfully on a reasonable budget.
